Abilis Foundation.
FEMALE FACULTY MEMBERS OF THE UMAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY PARTICIPATED IN THE WRAP-UP MEETING FOR THE “DIFFERENT ABILITIES — EQUAL RIGHTS” PROJECT
A wrap-up meeting was held at the “Workshop of opportunities” of the nonprofit organization “Vinnytsia Down Syndrome” to review the results of the “Different Abilities – Equal Rights” project on social and daily living skills and technologies. The initiative aims to develop social and daily living competencies, foster independence, and expand opportunities for children and youth with intellectual challenges.
The event was attended by female faculty members from Uman National University: Oksana Hnatiuk, Ph.D. in Education and associate professor in the Department of Mathematics, Physics, and Integrative Technologies for Teaching Natural Sciences, and Natalia Hrynova, Ph.D. in Psychology and associate professor in the Department of Psychology.
During the meeting, Oksana Hnatiuk presented scientific and methodological developments in the field of social and life orientation and technologies, specifically programs for children aged 12–17 and individuals aged 18–23. The programs were developed with consideration for the age-related and individual characteristics of people with intellectual challenges and are focused on building the practical life skills necessary for daily functioning, personal independence, and social participation.
An important component of the work was the practical testing of the program for young adults aged 18–23 at the Cherkashchana inclusive educational hub. During the test, the practical feasibility of the proposed content, methodological approaches, and learning tasks were tested, and the potential for adapting them to participants’ individual needs was assessed.
The practical work was aimed at developing independence, building self-care skills, organizing daily life and social interaction, as well as performing accessible technological tasks.
Psychological support for the participants also became an important aspect of the project’s implementation. Natalia Hrynova provided psychological counseling aimed at taking into account the individual psychological characteristics of children and youth, identifying their current needs, and selecting appropriate approaches to psychological support.
The final meeting was attended by parents, children, teachers, and representatives of civil society organizations and institutions: the Promin Rehabilitation Center, the Parostok NGO, the Sunny Children of Kherson Region NGO, the Obriy Regional Center, Inclusive Resource Center No. 2 in Vinnytsia, and the Kolping Society in Ukraine NGO.
The meeting served as a space for professional dialogue, the presentation of scientific and methodological findings, the exchange of practical experience, and the identification of prospects for future work. It demonstrated the importance of combining scientific research, methodological provision, psychological support, and practical activities in creating effective models for the education and support of individuals with intellectual challenges.
The participation of female faculty members from Uman National University in the project exemplifies the practical implementation of scientific and methodological developments in the field of inclusive education, collaboration between the university community and civil society organizations and specialists, as well as the integration of scientific and pedagogical activities with addressing pressing societal needs.
After all, the main goal of social and life skills orientation lies not only in mastering certain skills but also in creating real opportunities for independent living, personal development, and active participation of every person in the community life.
The “Different Abilities — Equal Rights” project was implemented with financial support from the Finnish Abilis Foundation.
